Abstract

566,953. Charging batteries. CALDWELL, P. G. April 16, 1943, No. 6151. [Class 38 (iv)] An immersion type heating resistance 2 for use particularly in heating the circulating water of a motor vehicle engine, as for example in Specification 566,952, [Group XIII], is connected in series with the primary winding of a curren transformer 10 so tha when connected to an A.C. source a battery may be charged fron the secondary winding, which is connected through rectifiers 17 to charging terminals. The arrangement provides substantially the same charging current for batteries up to 24 volts. If the primary winding is of sufficient gauge, the apparatus may be connected to a D.C. circuit. An auxiliary heating resistance 3 may be connected in parallel with the principal circuit through a switch 15.
