Abstract

222,262. Baker, H. V. Aug. 1, 1923. Springs, arrangement of and mounting undercarriages on; guiding vertical play; axles.-An underframe for a perambulator or similar vehicle is provided with forwardly and rearwardly extending radius bar-like or U-shaped members 8, 9, incapable of motion relatively to the frame and supporting at their lower and outer comers, the lower ends of rods &c. 13, Fig. 4, which form guides for sparing controlled axle-bars 17. The axle-bars 17 are connected to stub-axles 19 by cranked members 17<a> which are recessed at 17<b> to receive non-metallic tubular bushes 20 sliding on the rods &c. 13 which are secured at 14, 16 to the members 8, 9 and frame 7 respectively. Compression springs surrounding the rods &c. 13 above the axle bars are secured at their upper ends by the connections 16 and, at their lower ends, fit over the bushes 20. Springs 18 may be provided beneath the axle bars. Strengthening bars 17a may be riveted at 17<e> to the axle bars. The lower face of the bush, in addition or in lieu of the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, may be flanged to fit in a hole in the member 17a. The U-shaped members 8, 9 are connected at 10, 11 to the frame 7 and are secured together by a rivet &c. 12.
