Abstract

A wiper drive mechanism comprising wiper motor 2, drive shafts 3a for wiper arms, and drive transmitting linkage 4 for transmitting drive from the motor to the drive shafts is associated with a frame 5 comprising a main central member 10 integral with casing 2a of the wiper motor and end members 11 connectable to the main central member and holders 3 in which the drive shafts are mounted. The wiper drive mechanism assembly may be attached to a car body via vibration- proof mountings 30. By using end members of different length, assembly of wiper drive mechanisms to different cars is said to be more cost effective. <IMAGE>

Description

WIPER DEVICE The present invention relates to an improved wiper device of indirectly fixed type of which a frame attached with moving elements is fixed to a car body through a vibration proofing menber in order to reduce noise in the compartent.
Heretofore, there have been many types of structure of such wiper devices of indirectly fixed type.
Among them, there has been a wiper device having a structure as shown in Figure 3 for example.
The wiper device 101 shown in Figure 3 has structure that a pipe-like shaped frame 105 is attached with a wiper motor 102, pivots 103a and 103a for screw-clamping wiper arms (not shown), and a linkage 104 for converting a rotation of said wiper motor 102 into reciprocating rotational movements of said pivots 103a and 103a as also shown in Figure 4.
Said frame 105 is attached with pivot holders 103 and 103 by inserting into the both ends thereof, and a support bracket 110 for screw-clamping a gear case 102a of said wiper motor 102 by spot we-lding to the middle part thereof.
Said linkage 104 is provided with a first link 122 interlinking a motor arm 120 of said wiper motor 102 and a pivot arm 121 of one of said pivots 103a and 103a, and a second link 124 interlinking said pivot arm 121 and a pivot arm 123 of another pivot 103a so as to synchronize the movements of said pivots 103a and 103a.
And , said wiper arm 101 is fixed to a car body through three mounts 130 formed with vibration-proof materials and attached to said pivot holders 103, 103 and said support bracket 110 in order to prevent transmission of vibration from moving elements to the car body.
In the conventional wiper device 101 as described above, however, it is nesessary to change the length of the frame 105 and the welding position of the support bracket 110 on said frame 105 according to the models of cars because the distance between the pivots 103a and 103a, and the mounting position of the wiper motor 102 depend on the models . Therefore, since the wiper device 101 must be assembled using the parts manufactured in accordance with the dimension of respective models, there is a peoblem in that the production cost increases owing to the increase of man-hour for controlling the production and the stockpile of parts.
The present invention aims to provide a wiper device of indirectly fixed type which can decrease the manhour for controlling parts and the production cost by using parts made possible to apply to the plurality of models in common.
The construction of the wiper device according to this invention is characterized by having a pivot for connecting a wiper arm, a wiper motor, and a linkage for converting a rotation of said wiper motor into a reciprocating rotational movement of said pivot on a frame fixed to a car body through a vibration proofing member, said frame being separated into a main frame formed as one body with a casing of said wiper motor and a subframe connected with said main frame and fixed to a pivot holder.
Said construction of the wiper device is introduced as the means to solve the aforementioned problem of the conventional wiper device of indirectly fixed type.
Said wiper device according to this invention having aforementioned construction is adapted for the respective models by controlling the distance between the pivots and the mounting position of the wiper motor by merely adjusting the length of the subframe the be connected with the main frame.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the wiper device according to an embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of the wiper device shown in Figure 1 Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating a conventional wiper device ; and Figure 4 is a exploded perspective view of the wiper device shown in Figure 3.
This invention will be described below on basis of figures.
Figures 1 and 2 are drawings showing an embodiment of the wiper device according to this invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing structure of the wiper device. In this embodiment, a wiper device of tandem type will be explained as an example.
In Figure 1, numeral 1 denotes the wiper device, said wiper device 1 has structure provided with a wiper motor 2, pivots 3a and 3a for screw-clamping a wiper arm (not shown), a linkage 4 for converting a rotation of said wiper motor 2 into reciprocating rotational movement of said pivots 3a and 3a on a frame 5.
Said frame 5, as also shown in Figure 2, comprises a main frame 10 casted in one body with a gear case 2a that is a casing of said wiper motor 2, and pipe-like shaped subframes 11 and 11 engaged with both ends of said main frame 10. And pivot holders 3 and 3 are engaged with said subframe 11 and 11 respectively.
In this embodiment, said main frame 10 has cylindrical parts 10a and 10a at both ends thereof, and said pivot holder 3 also has a cylindrical part 3b. And said main frame 10 and said pivot holder 3 have holes lOb and 3c on said cylindrical parts 10a and 3b respectively in order to prevent them from the slipping off after caulking.
Said cylindrical part 10a of the main frame 10 is fitted into an opening lla at one end of said subframe 11, and said cylimdrical part 3b of the pivot holder 3 is fitted into an opening lla at another end of said subframe 11. Then, said subframe 11 is caulked at caulking portions llb at both ends thereof so as to fix firmly said main frame 10 and said pivot holder 3 into subframe 11.
Said linkage 4 provided with a first link 22 interlinking a motor arm 20 of said wiper motor 2 and a pivot arm 21 of one of said pivots 3a and 3a, and a second link 24 interlinking said pivot arm 21 and a pivot arm 23 of another pivot 3a so as to synchronize the movements of said pivots 3a and 3a.
And, said wiper device 1 is fixed to a car body through three mounts (vibration proofing members) 30 formed with vibration-proof materials and attached to the gear case 2a of the wiper motor 2 and respective pivot holders 3 and 3, so that vibration of the moving element such as said wiper motor 2 or said linkage 4 is prevented from being transmitted to the car body when said wiper device 1 is fixed to the car body.
Said respective subframes 11 and 11 are selected on basis of the length in accordance With the setting distance between the pivots 3a and 3a, and the mounting position of the wiper motor 2.
Therefore, the mounting position of the wiper motor 2 and the distance between pivots 3a and 3a become possible to adapt for the respective models of the cars by merely selecting the length of subframes 11 and 11 because the frame 5 is separated into said subframe 11 and 11.
Thereby, said mainframe 10 becames possible to be used as parts having commonality, and parts control at every model of cars can be made unnecessary if only the dimension of the subframe 11 is controlled.
And, in the aforementioned embodiment, the wiper device of tandem type is described as an example, though it is needless to say that the wiper device of single arm type or triple arm type is also included within the technical range of this invention.
As mentioned above, the wiper device according to this invention having a pivot for connecting a wiper arm, a wiper motor, and a linkage for converting a rotation of said wiper motor into a reciprocating rotational movement of said pivot on a frame fixed to a car body through a vibration proofing member, said frame being separated into a main frame formed as one body with a casing of said wiper motor and a subframe connected with said main frame and fixed to a pivot holder. Therefore, by using the wiper device having the above-mentioned constitution, it is unnecessary any more to design parts especially for an individual model of cars, and possible to invest parts with commonality because it is possible to adjust the distance between the pivots and the mounting position of the wiper motor on the frame by merely selecting the length of the subframe. Accordingly, an excellent effect can be obtained that it is possible to reduce the number of parts to be controlled and possible to cut down the production cost.
