Abstract

A two part member for connecting the skirt of a dock seal to an accordion shaped tunnel member which is carried on lazy tongs comprises a first section member, A, with two parallel arms (2, 3) extending from a web section (1) of the first member and spaced to fit on mounting bosses (100) of the lazy tongs (101). A groove (6) defined between the web section (1) and an outer section (7) is disposed to receive the dock seal skirt (102) while a further groove (12) receives a resilient sealing extension 103 of the accordion tunnel member (104). The skirt (102) is held by a second member (B) driven into the groove (6). <IMAGE>

Description

. 5ECUION EM2ER FOR DOOR SE DESCRIPTION Door seals are known whose skirts covering the gap between the structure of a lorry and the door edge are mounted on a tunnel-like frame which can be disposed at the front ends of two lazy tongs at a variable distance from the building wall, the zone between such frame and such wall being bridged by a tunnel-like accordeon secured at one end to the wall and at the other end to the frame and retained between both ends on the lazy tongs so as to be able to follow by changes in its length variations in the distance between the frame and the wall. The connection between the frame, on the one hand, and the tongs, accordeon and skirts, on the other hand, has previously involved numerous elements and has therefore been relatively costly to assemble.
.It is the object of the improvement to provide a section member which has only two parts and which can be mounted on the tongs, receive the skirt parts and be effective for the mounting of the accordeon so that the tunnel-like frame can be formed from it and the door seal at the front end can be assembled with a reduced number of parts and reduced assembly costs.
To solve the problem the improvement starts from a two-part section member for connecting the skirt of a door seal to the accordeon, the same being hung on lazy tongs.
To solve the problem a section member of the kind of interest here is proposed with the following features according to the improvement: Two parallel arms extend from a web of a first section member part, are spaced apart from one another by an amount corresponding to the width of the front bearing or mounting bosses of the lazy tongs and are formed with apertures for the pivoted hanging of the bosses, the web side remote from the arms is effective as one siAe of a groove whose other side is disposed with the interposition of a connecting piece of the first section member part at such a distance from said one side of the groove that, by way of an adjustable strip adapted to be driven into the groove End affecz#ve as the second part of the section member, the skirt can be secured in the latter groove, and two strips of the first section member part bound, in extension of the skirt-receiving groove but separated therefrom by the connecting piece, a third groove into which a resilient sealing strip of the accordeon can be driven.
The improvement will be described hereinafter with reference to the drawing which is a cross-section through a section member according to the improvement.
A first section member part A has a web 1 formed on one side with two parallel arms 2, 3 bounding between them a groove 4 of a width such that mounting bosses 100 at the front end of two lazy tongs 101 associated with door sealing can be introduced into the groove 4.
The arms 2, 3 are formed with apertures 5 which are coa#fal of one another and which are adapted to receive the top bearing bosses of the two lateral lazy tongs; a bearing pin is adapted to be pushed through the apertures 5 and the bearing boss 100 therebetween. The bottom bearing members at the front ends of the tongs are so mounted in the groove 4 as to be slidable therein lengthwise thereof.
The web side remote from the arms 2, 3 is effective as one side of a second groove 6 which extends parallel to the web 1 and whose other side is provided by a strip 7 of the part A, a connecting strip 8 retaining the strip 7 at an appropriate distance from the web 1.
The width of the groove 6 is such that the skirt 102 can be retained therein, a second section member part B of the two-part section member being driven into the groove 6 as the skirt 102 is driven there into in order to secure the skirt 102 in the groove 6. The second part B has the shape of an angle member whose narrower arm s is intended merely to facilitate the driving-in and withdrawal of the part B and whose other arm 10 is sharpened to facilitate penetration into the groove 6 and whose side adapted to co-operate with the groove wall - i.e., with the web side remote from the arms 2, 3 - has longitudinal grooving 11 to reduce the risk of accidental loosening of the part B after. it has been driven into the groove 6.
D!C.posed in prolongation of the groove 6 but separated therefrom by the cor, necting strip 8 is a third groove 12 hounded by two strips 13, 14 of the part A and by the connecting strip 8. A sealing strip 103 of the accordeon 104 is driven into the groove 12, the strip 103 having limited resilience in that two pieces 105, 106 are resiliently adjustable relatively to one another.
To separate the part A from the tongs 101 all that is necessary is to knock the pins out of the apertures 5, and the connection is simple to make. The skirt 102 needs changing not frequently but occasionally and this reqiirement is satlsfied by the form of connection chosen with the second section member part B. The accordeon 104 Is very unlikely to have to be separated from the section member part A and so can readily be introduced with its sealing section member 103 into the groove 12 but can hardly be removed therefrom without being destroyed.
Conveniently, the section member part A is so divided that one each of the section member portions is associated with the vertical lateral ends of the accordeon and with the lazy tongs disposed near the accordeon side walls and corresponding portions of the second section member part B can be driven into the portions of the first part A. The portions thereof are then interconnected by a section member adapted to receive the accordeon roof. The skirt 102 is in the form of two lateral parts which are associated in the manner described with the two vertical section member side portions and with a third top horizontal head part which is associated in appropriate manner with the top part of the tunnel-like frame, the latter part interconnecting the two side section member portions.
Both the section member parts A, B are preferably extruded sections of an appropriate aluminium alloy.

Claims (2)

Claim S
1. A two-par-t section member for connecting the skirt of a door seal to the accordeon, the same being hung on lazy tongs, characterised in that two parallel arms (2, 35 extend from a web (1) of a first section member part (A), are spaced apart from one another by an amount corresponding to the width of the front bearing or mounting bosses (100) of the lazy tongs (101) and are formed with apertures (5) for the pivoted hanging of the bosses, the web side remote from the arms (2, 3) is effective AS one side of a groove (6) whose other side (7) is disposed with the interposition of a connecting piece (8) of the first section member part at such a distance from said one side of the groove (6) that, by way of an adjustable strip (9, 10) adapted to be driven into the groove (6) and effective as the second part (8) of the section member, the skirt (102) can be secured in the latter groove (6), and two strips (13, 14) of the first section member part (A) bound, in extension of the skirt-receiving groove (6) but separated therefrom by the connecting piece (8), a third groove (;2) into which a sealing strip (103) of the accordeon (104) can be driven the latter having limited provision for resilience.
2. A two-part section member for connecting the skirt of a door seal substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
