Abstract

1461458 Ventilation damper F J MeCABE 22 April 1974 [26 April 1973] 17455/74 Heading F4V [Also in Division E2] A backdraft damper comprises blades 14 pivoted to a frame 12. Each blade 14 has along its upper edge a hook-shaped hinge portion 16 which at each end interfits a hook-shaped hinge element 32 integrally formed in the frame. The lower portion of each blade 14 has a seal member 20, e.g. of vinyl material. The frame 12 is made from an aluminium channel member of E-shape cross-section which has been folded about the blades, the channel flanges having been provided with V notches to allow the folding at the corners of the frame. In making the damper, one end of the hinge portion 16 of each blade 14 is inserted as indicated at A into a notch 31 into articulated relationship with a hook-shaped element 32. Thereafter, the channel member is folded about the blades, Fig. 2 (not shown) to form the rectangular frame 12. While the folding is taking place, the other ends of the hinge portion 16 of each blade 14 is inserted into a corresponding hook-shaped element 32 on the other side of the frame. To finish off the structure the ends of the channel member are welded together.
