Mechanical switches, retained set.-A switch for controlling the illuminating lamps of a motor car has a switch lever movable into three positions, (i) for connecting the side lamps in series for dim lighting while the vehicle is standing, (ii) for connecting these lamps in parallel for running, and (iii) for connecting the powerful headlights in parallel. In switching over from position (ii) to position (iii) a spring arranged in the hub of the switch lever is stressed and the switch lever is retained in position (iii) by a catch which may be released to restore the lever instantly to position (ii) by actuating a pressbutton which lies in the axis of oscillation of the switch lever.
