Abstract

467,337. Supply systems for vehicle lamps. MATHA, H. Nov. 14, 1935, No. 31565. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1934. [Class 38 (iv)] Switching control.-In motor vehicle road lighting systems in which the ordinary headlamps P and the laterally directed headlamps p for use on curved roads are each provided with full and dim filaments or bulbs, the auxiliary headlamps are supplied through interrupters operated by relays responsive to the switching on of the full or dim filaments in the main headlamps, thus preventing leakage of current to earth through unused filaments. The full beam filaments or the dim filaments in the ordinary headlamps P are connected to the battery 25 according to whether switch arm 22 engages contact B or A. The corresponding filaments in the auxiliary headlamps p are also rendered available for use by the energization of the corresponding relay 26, but are not switched on until lever 20, connected to the steering wheels, is deflected to one side or the other so as to supply that lamp which will illuminate the road on the inside of the curve. Relay 26 closes switch 27 between the battery 25 and the corresponding filaments in lamps p and also opens corresponding contact 52 or 51. When steering switch 20 completes the circuit to earth, contact 27 energizes the filament in one of the lamps p, but the opening of contact 52 or 51 prevents current from leaking to earth through any other filament. A switch 33 may be provided for switching either of the auxiliary head lamps on or off independently of the steering switch. This switch may be operated with the turning signal switch. Either or both of the auxiliary headlamps may be switched on manually. In a modification both auxiliary headlamps are energized on operation of the accelerator pedal or the brake pedal, but such operation may only be possible when switch 22 is in one of its two positions. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which only one relay 26 is employed. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
