Mould and core materials.-A material for coating moulds consists of 30 per cent to 15 per cent of aluminous earth, preferably clay, mixed with 70 per cent to 80 per cent of soot part of which may be replaced by powdered vegetable or mineral combustible material. If the earth does not contain much silica a corresponding quantity of silica mav be added. The ingredients are mixed with 5 per cent to 10 per cent of water, ground, dried at 100‹ C., and then reground forming a powder which is stored and is mixed with water when required for use.
