Abstract

219,969. Houdek, O., and Houdek, F. July 19, 1924. Automatic circuit-breakers which operate upon the occurrence of excess current, have a light narrow needle shaped core 18 which moves in a solenoid 13 and is adapted to strike the. flap 12 of an arm 11 pivoted at 10 to a contact member 6 which is adapted to be moved about a pivot 3 into engagement with a contact 16 and to be latched against return by the arm 11 slipping over a catch 13'. A switch 2, 4 is connected in series with the circuit breaker 6, 16, the switch arm 2 being fixed to the spindle 3 which carries a handle. Rotation of the spindle 3 in a clockwise direction first opens the switch 2, 4 and then a projection on the arm 2 engages the arm 6 and closes the circuit breaker. Springs tending to pull them in a counter-clockwise direction are attached to both the arms 2, 6. The lower end of the core 18 is guided by a loop 20 engaging a pin 21 which retards the initial movement and causes the core to strike with a jerk, and the core carries adjustable weights 23. A short soft tube 17 intensifies the megnetic field.
