Automatic circuitbreakers; electromagnetic switches. - In a highspeed circuit-breaker as described in Specification 219,723 the contact which co-operates with the high speed circuitbreaking contact, instead of being fixed is made movable and is controlled by hand or eleotromagnetically to reclose the breaker after the high speed contact has been brought back, free of restraint to the original position. The high-speed contact F is normally held in its closed position, shown in Fig. 1, by the shaped armature C pivoted at C' and attracted to the shunt electromagnet B. The armature is connected to the contact through links D, E. On overload, the series electromagnet A overpowers the shunt electromagnet, which is provided with leakage poles so that it readily releases the armature, and the contact F moves very rapidly to the off position. To reclose the breaker, a rod H<2> is drawn down against the action of a spring K, electromagnetically as shown, or by hand, and a link L between the rod and the pivot C' is depressed so that it comes into engagement with the armature and depresses it positively on to the shunt electromagnet where it is retained, thereby moving the contact F back to the position corresponding to closure. At the same time, however, the rod H<2> withdraws the main contact G and its sparking contact G<1>, and the circuit is finally closed by these contacts which resume their original position when the rod H<2> is released from manual or electromagnetic control. The sparking contact and the high speed contact are shaped so as to set up forces between one another as described in Specification 167,846 and they are located within the magnetic circuit of the series electromagnet so that a blow-out action is produced.
