Abstract
219,397. Warburton, F. G. April 25, 1923. Speed maintaining systems. - In systems for maintaining a constant but adjustable speed-ratio between a number of motors driving sections of paper-making machinery or the like, differential devices actuated by electric motors running synchronously with and mechanically dissociated from the driving motors vary resistances which compensate for a departure from the designed speed-ratio. Fig. 1 shows three direct-current electric motors 11, two of which are required to run at a fixed speed relative to the third. Each of the two is electrically connected by tappings on its armature winding and slip rings 16 so as to furnish alternating current to a small synchronous motor 15 preferably situated outside the paper machine room. The motor 15 drives, through change-speed gear 19, one element of a revolving variable resistance device the other element of which is driven by a motor 17 synchronous with the third or fixed speed motor 11 the effect being to vary resistance in the field of the regulated motor when the speed-ratio departs from the normal. Specification 22897/14 is referred to.
