Abstract

219,105. Wiggins, W. E., and Wilson, R. J. April 23, 1923. Portable turning-apparatus. - Small bar-bed lathes are adapted for screw-cutting by driving through change-gearing a spindle mounted in the bar-bed and capable of axial movement into or out of engagement with the traversing screw. The traversing screw 25, Fig. 3, may be driven by a spindle 5 having a key-end 22 and axially slidable in a sleeve 4 which is journaled in a sleeve 1 secured to the bar-bed and is driven through change-gearing from the lathe spindle. The pinion 8 is mounted on a sleeve 13<a> which is secured to the lathe spindle. The intermediate wheels of the gear-train are carried on studs in a slotted frame 11, Fig. 2, which is clamped to the sleeve 1 by a screw 13.
