Abstract

The swivel motion of a firearm (31) about its elevation axis (10) is transmitted to a direction collimator (32) which pivots on a fixed bracket (25) by a linkage system so arranged that is does not get damaged as a result of an obstruction. This is by virtue of the fact that the linkage system comprises a number of two- armed, fixed levers (15, 18, 21) interconnected by a corresponding number of link bars (12, 17, 20), allowing the linkage system to negotiate an obstacle instead of forming a straight, troublesome link between the collimator and the gun. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Apparatus for conformal transfer of the cradle movement of a firearm to the direction collimator This invention relates to an apparatus for conformal transfer of the cradle movement of a firearm to the direction collimator, which is pivotably mounted on a fixed bracket and is connected via a linkage system to the firearm, which can be elevated.
Since it is not always possible to mount the direction collimator directly on the firearm it has to be pivotably mounted on a bracket, with a linkage system ensuring that the movement of the cradle is transmitted conformally to the direction collimator.
A mechanical linkage between the sighting lens and the gun is known (see examined German patent application (DE-AS) 1 817 554) where in a parallelogram mechanism a twoarmed lever is arranged at a point on a base, one of whose arms is linked to the sighting lens and the other to the gun in a parallelogram configuration.
This known linkage system, however, has the disadvantage that it constitutes a direct link between the gun and the sighting lens, which often gets in the way and is therefore also easily damaged.
The object achieved by the present invention consists in the provision of a linkage system which neither interferes with the operation of the gun nor is damaged when the gun is operated.
Apart from the features in the opening portion of the claim, the apparatus of the invention by means of which this object is achieved also exhibits the features in the characterising portion of the claim.
One embodiment of an apparatus for conformal transfer of the cradle movement of a firearm to the direction collimator is described in detail below with the aid of the accompanying drawing.
The single drawing figure shows a highly simplified schematic representation of a linkage system used to swivel a collimator when the firearm is swung by the same angle of elevation.
In this sole figure of firearm 31 can be swung through an elevation axis 10. Arcs of a circle indicate the trunnion mounting 11 in which the firearm 31 swivels. One end of a link bar 12 is hinged at the gun 31 via a joint 13. When the gun 31 is swung, said joint 13 describes an arc 14 about the elevation axis 10. The other end of the link bar 12 is hinged at a two-armed lever 15, which swivels on a fixed axle 16. One end of a second link bar 17 is also hinged at said two-armed lever 15, the other end of link bar 17 being hinged at a second two-armed lever 18, which swivels on a further fixed axle 19. A third link bar 20 has one end hinged at said second two-armed lever 18, the other end being hinged at a third two-armed lever 21.To one arm 22 of said two-armed lever 21, which is mounted on a fixed axle 23, is attached a collimator 32, which must always be orientated in parallel with the barrel of the firearm 31. On a casing 24 in which the gun 31 swivels is mounted a bracket 25, the foregoing three fixed axles 16, 19 and 23 being mounted on the latter. For adjustment of the foregoing linkage system the length of the three link bars 12, 17 and 20 is adjustable. Link bars 12, 17 and 20 consist of two parts respectively linked together by threaded pins 26, 27, 28. One half of the threaded pin 26, 27, 28 has the standard righthand thread and the other half of threaded pin 26, 27, 28 has a left-hand thread and at its centre the threded pin 26, 27, 28 has a screw head.Depending on the direction in which the threaded pin 26, 27, 28 is turned, the two parts of the link bar 12, 17, 20 are either moved apart or brought closer together.
In a further embodiment the threaded pin 26, 27, 28 has a screw head at its centre, and the thread on one side of the screw head has a steeper pitch than the thread on the other side of the screw head.
The linkage system outlined above forms three parallelograms. The first parallelogram is formed by elevation axis 10, fixed axle 16, joint 13 and joint 29. The second parallelogram is formed by the two fixed axles 16 and 19 and the two joints 35 and 36. Finally, the third parallelogram is formed by the two fixed axles 19 and 23 and the two joints 33 and 34.
1. An apparatus for conformal transfer of the cradle movement of a firearm to the direction collimator, which is pivotably mounted on a fixed bracket and is connected via a linkage system to the firearm which can be elevated, characterised in that said linkage system exhibits as many two-armed, fixed levers as are necessary to adapt to the shape of the firearm without impeding the operation of said gun, that said levers are inter-connected via a corresponding number of link bars, that the collimator is attached to one arm of the last of the two-armed, fixed levers, and that each link bar exhibits an element for adjusting its length to form parallelograms.
2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein at least three two-armed, fixed levers are interconnected by corresponding three link bars, each element for adjusting the length of the bars exhibiting a threaded pin which has a screw head at its centre and on one side of the screw head the thread has a different pitch from the thread on the other side of the screw head.
