Gaseous-fuel fittings.-In a vertical-fiued coke oven having horizontal gas supply channels G arranged adjacent the lower ends of the heating- flues C and extending into the structure from the ends of the heating-walls, the outer end of each channel G is fitted with a metallic liner K, having ports K<1> adapted to register with the adjacent brickwork ports H. This liner prevents leakage of gas at that portion of the structure where, owing to temperature changes, the joints are most like to open. The outer end of the liner is enlarged to take an internal thread for the supply pipe M, and the passage in the brickwork is made large enough to accommodate a cement or mortar filling L around the liner.
