Purifying fatty and mineral oils.-In refining oils by gases or vapours, a pool of oil is maintained below a stream of vapour and projected thereinto in a fountain of drops too large to be carried away by the current. Nozzles 27 are submerged at an adjustable depth in the oil 26 and supplied with air or gas from a flexible pipe 41. The vapour and oil preferably pass continuously and in opposite directions through the chamber 16, which may be inclined longitudinally. The spraying-nozzles may have orifices 30, Fig. 7, tapering towards the ends, and are arranged so that the fountain may incline towards the vapour inlet. Specification 231,921, [Class 1 (ii), Inorganic compounds, other than &c.], is referred to.
