Abstract

Annular sheets; splashing-apparatus; nozzle., with regulable orifices.-Gases are purified, absorbed, &c. in ascending a chamber in which two or more coherent sheets of flowing liquid are arranged one above another, having gaps at staggered intervals for passage of gas. In the form of apparatus shown in Fig. 1, liquid flows through slits in tubes a, the sheets being divided by V- shaped baffles d. Or the tubes may be arranged on both sides cf the chamber away from the walls, gas-ways being provided between the tubes and bent plates which direct the liquid towards the walls. In another form, the liquid sheets may be produced by jets from a central tube e imping- ing on plates g. Fig. 5 shows a modified nozzle the. width of annular slots p, t being adjustable by movement of the members r, s over the threaded central sleeve x. Adjustable baffles w provide gaps in the liquid sheets. A second nozzle may be screwed on the sleeve on removal of a cap 3.
