Abstract
218,532. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 28, 1923. High-potential switches. - The tank 1 of a liquid-break switch is provided with a cover in the form of an expansion chamber 4 which has an inwardly-extending flange 15 abutting on the open end of the tank and carrying cooling means for the gases passing from the tank to the expansion chamber. The cooling means comprise a series of ring plates 16 separated by small washers 17 which surround the stems of clamping bolts 19. The hot gases pass through the spaces between the washers 17 and may finally leave the chamber 4 through a pipe 22 into an external cooling chamber 24 where they pursue a tortuous path past gravel 31, finally emerging at the top. To prevent sparks in the chamber 4, the bushings 8 are surrounded by metallic supports 21 in metallic connection with one another. Specification 195,355 is referred to.
