Abstract
218,416. Bryant, C. W., and Peter Brotherhood, Ltd. April 18, 1923. Pressure gauges.-In gauges used with oxygen or other gases, explosion risks due to the oxygen combining with oil are minimized by providing the pressure chamber with a controllable blowthrough outlet for scavenging purposes. The interior of the free end of the pressure tube a is connected by. a flexible tube b with the block c. on which the pressure tube is mounted, and the valve controls the outlet from the duct f leading from the tube b. The parts of the gauge which are exposed to pressure are contained in a strong case u provided with an opening v covered with varnished linen or some material that can readily be burst. The indicating finger and dial are contained in a separate compartment z, from which gas is excluded, and which is in free communication with the atmosphere. The dial may be illuminated from behind by a lamp 3. In use the plug d is moved clockwise in Fig. 3 so that the duct f is placed in communication with the duct e and the gas passes to the atmosphere via ducts h, i, g, tubes a, b, ducts f, cavity k and duct e. Any oil &c. in the tube a is thus blown out. By slowly rotating the plug d through a further 180‹ the gauge is connected to the gas supply and is cut off from the atmosphere. In a modification, two Bourdon tubes mounted side by side have their free ends connected together and the gas' enters one tube, traverses the other and enters the duct f where this second tube is connected to the block.
