Abstract

Cleansing-compositions for scouring wool, cotton, flax, hemp, ramie, jute, or other fibrous material consist of about 8 oz. of Irish moss jelly, 2 oz. of paraffin wax, 20 oz. of water, and about 9 oz. in all of the following substances or their equivalents in soap manufacture, and preferably in the proportions specified: 2 oz. of borax, 2 oz. of stearic acid, 2 oz. of soda ash, 2 oz. of sal soda, and 1/2 oz. of potassium carbonate. In use the composition is dissolved in 16-64 volumes of boiling water, and the solution is maintained at 110-120 DEG F. while the material is soaked therein.
