Abstract
218,147. Taylor, A. B. Aug. 20, 1923. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Road-and-rail wheels.-Relates to wheels of the type which are adapted for use on roads or rails by the provision of a segmental flange adapted to be extended beyond or withdrawn within the periphery of the wheel tread. According to the invention the flange segments c, d are mounted in either of their two positions by a clamping ring e and bolts f, which work in parallel slots c<1>, d' in the segments. The clamping ring e may have a flange g adapted to envelop the segments in their closed position and the segments may also have a flange h on their inner edges. In a modification, the segments may be hinged to the wheel at different distances from the centre. Two pairs of wheels with the adjustable segmental flange may be provided on one axle to adapt the vehicle for railways of different gauge.
