Abstract
An adjustable, re-usable shuttering system comprising a rectangular box, the long sides of which are transparent. The end pieces of the box control the width and are attached by means of wing nuts, or similar fastenings, to the framework surrounding the transparent sides. The box can be used in a four sided or three sided, open-ended form. A crossbar is used to provide rigidity when the structure is open-ended. Levels are built into the framework of the box and adjustable legs can be attached to either end. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION Stonewall shuttering system
This invention relates to a portable shuttering system fortheconstruction of garden walls and similar stone structures.
Garden walls are constructed in a wide variety of ways - bricks and concrete blocks probably being the most commonly used materials. Stone is not so often used because of the extra expense involved (for both labour and materials) and because the building skills required often deter the average D.l.Y. handyman.
Stone is nevertheless recognised as an attractive and prestigious material and in certain circumstances can be relatively cheap.
This invention is designed to simplify and cheapen the construction of stone walls, and to bring them within the scope of the unskilled and inexperienced builder. It has abandoned the concept of using a mould to produce small blocks which are then cemented together, in favour of casting larger sections "in situ".Atthesametime, theshuttering box is readily portable and re-usable.
The present invention comprises an adjustable rectangular box which is easily assembled and dismantled. (The box is constructed so that the interior is "clean" - ie. free of projections) The long sides of the box feature transparent plastic panels which are attached to a rigid framework. These sides are connected by bolts/wing nuts or similar means to the end pieces. The width of the box - and consequently the width ofthewall section produced - is controlled by means ofthe holes in the end pieces.
The box can be used as a closed, four-sided construction or used open-ended. The necessary rigidity, when the box is used open-ended, is prov ided by an adjustable crossbar which is attached to the long sides and holds them firmly in position. An internal divider is also provided and this can be placed insidethe box if a section of wall lessthanthe length ofthe box is required.
The box can be used with adjustable legs, in order to enable a second "block" to be placed on top of a lower course. Levels are also built into the framework of the box.
Aspecificembodimentofthe invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing, the box consists of two transparent panels 1, and two end-pieces 2, which allow width adjustment by means ofthe holes 3, (The box does not have a top or bottom.) The box is provided with inbuilt levels 4. Simple adjustable legs 5 can be attached to the box at either end.
The box is piaced on a suitable foundation and levelled. Stones are arranged and cemented inside and against both transparent panels 1. The space between these internal stone faces can be filled in with concrete/cement, our a cement rubble mix as required. (Earth filled sections can also be produced.)
When the contents are firm, the box is dismantled and re-assembled adjacent to the completed "block" in an open ended form. Rigidity at the open end (nearestthe completed block) is provided by the adjustable crossbar 6. The procedure is then repeated as required. An internal divider (not shown) can be used to adjust the length of the blocks if necessary. The legs 5 can be used to steady the box if it is used for a second course.
1. An adjustable re-usable shuttering system, comprising a rectangular box with transparent sides, built-in levels, optional extending legs, and the capacity to be used in either a four sided or open-ended form.
2. A box as claimed in claim 1 with an adjustable, internal divider.
3. A shuttering system substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawing.

*(b) New ortextually amended claims have been filed asfollows:
1. An adjustable, re-usable shuttering system, primarily designed for the construction of natural stone walls, and comprising afree-standing re ctangular box with plastic (preferably transparent) sides, drilled end panels controlling width adjustment, integral levels ensuring accuracy of both horizontal and vertical planes, the capacity to accept an internal sub-divider and adjustable legs, and capable of being used in a closed oropen-endedform.
2. A box as described in claim 1 with an adjustable "crossbar" facilitating open-ended use.
3. A shuttering system substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating the basic concept.
