Abstract

218,069. Philps, A. M., and Manlove, Alliott, & Co., Ltd. May 11, 1923. Rollers or cylinders.-A calender roll for use in laundry ironing-machines has a ribbed surface formed by cutting one or more helical grooves a, b therein, the bases of the grooves being perforated at c to to effect communication between the interior of the roll and the felt covering. The ribs prevent the felt from longitudinal movement on the roll and they may further be roughened for that purpose. In a modification, the surface of the roll is formed with groove-intervening ribs which are cut through at intervals, perforations being formed at the bases of the cuts.
