Abstract

Mechanical telegraphs; mine and colliery signals.- Transmitting devices for use in mechanical mine signalling apparatus such as that described in Specification 217,423, from which the present application has been divided are of the kind in which a pawl on the pull-rod engages a rack to prevent a subsequent pull being given, unless the pull-rod has been pulled through a full stroke, and comprise the use of a fixed rack and a catch adapted normally to hold the pawl out of engagement. The apparatus comprises a rod 8 connected by a wire 10 to the receiver or indicator and by a wire 10<a> to the transmitting lever, and provided with a pawl 12 weighted at 12a and adapted to engage a fixed rack 14 until the rod has been pulled a full stroke. In the latter event, the pawl is disengaged through the stud 16 engaging the pawl 12, which is thereafter held free of the rack by the catch 13 until, on the upward movement of the rod, it is rendered operative again by the projection 18 engaging the tail 17 of the catch.
