Abstract

519,410. Spring-drum apparatus. SORENSEN, C. April 13, 1939, No. 11190. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1938. [Class 78 (ii)] A clothes line 6 is wound on a spring - retracted drum 5 to which are pivoted at 7 centrifugal-pawls 8. The drum turns on a stationary pin 4 projecting from a notched disc 2 fixed on a bar 1 by which the device is attached to a wall &c. The notch 3 in the disc 2 is so shaped that a pawl engaging therein holds the line 6 against outward pull. To extend the line it is held by an end ring 10 and allowed to wind on the drum sufficiently for the engaging pawl to ride up the sloping side of the notch. A sharp outward pull then causes the pawls to fly centrifugally, and allows the ring 10 to be hooked over a projection. The line 6 passes from the drum through an eyelet, and to avoid the locking which would occur if a pawl.were to engage the notch when the ring 10 was up against the eyelet a stop 11 slidable along the line is provided near the ring.
