Abstract
217,415. Hillyard, G. I. May 30, 1923. Mop wringers; mops.-The mop fabric 1 is secured to a roller 2 carried by a U-shaped frame 9, the arms of which are slotted to receive the ends of a spindle of a second roller 11 resiliently pressed towards the roller 2. A ratchet disc 13 is fixed to the spindle 8 of the roller 2 and is provided with an arm 14 having a stud 15 adapted, when the mop is in position for use, to engage in a hole in one arm of the frame 9. A lever 16 is loosely mounted on the spindle 8 and is provided with a. resilient pawl 17, a catch 19 for engagement with an arm of the frame 9, and a tongue 18 adapted to project behind the arm 14. To wring the mop the lever 16 is given a lateral movement to disengage the catch 19 and the stud 15 and is then oscillated to give a step-by-step rotation to the roller 2. The mop fabric is formed at its ends with sleeves surrounding strips of metal 3, 4 which are secured to the roller by screws or by studs engaging in keyhole slots. In a modified construction the tongue 18, the pawl 17 and the arm 14 are dispensed with and the mop is held in the position for use by engagement of the catch 19 with the frame 9 and the lever 16 with a gap formed between the teeth on the ratchet disc.
