Abstract

Cutting slices in succession.- In a machine for cutting vegetables or fruit into slices or strips, the vegetables are fed by gravity to the knife which is provided with means for forcing the slices either to strip-cutting knives or directly to discharging positions. The vegetables descend in stationary trunks 5 and rest upon a plate 21, adjustable for varying the slice thickness by nuts 27 which are threaded on the supporting-rods 25 and engage brackets 26 on the casing 1. A bracket 4 carries horizontal and vertical shafts 9, 7 rotated by a hand-wheel or pulley 10 and interconnected by bevel gearing 12, 13. The knife, or knives, 14, secured on the shaft 7 by a wing-nut, passing through the plate 21, and pins 16, is preferably formed with scalloped cutting-edges and has depending fingers 20 which traverse each cut slice over the plate 21. Knives 23, mounted on members 22, may be secured to downturned flanges 30 of the plate 21 in the path of the slices which are thus cut into strips. The trunks 5 may be extended to the top of the casing 1 or auxiliary trunks depending from a cover may telescope into the trunks 5. Y-shaped members 33 may be inserted into the trunks 5 to adapt them for small vegetables. If slices only are required, the knife 14 is provided with a depending flange in place of the fingers 20. The plabe 21 may be resiliently supported by spring clips which engage the rods 25.
