Abstract

666,532. Slicing tomatoes. SANDOR, B. T. Nov. 2, 1950 [Aug. 26, 1949], No. 22190/49. Class 28(ii). Tomatoes &c. in one or other of tubular hoppers 16 on a horizontally rotated table 4 are sliced at the base as they are swept across a rotated disc knife 6. The tomatoes are prevented from falling down through the hoppers by a stationary support plate 17 the spacing of which from the lower edges of the hoppers can be varied to determine the slice thickness. The cut off slice which passes down through a gap 18 in the plate 17 may adhere to the knife until it is scraped off by an edge of a base aperture 19 through which it falls into a receptacle placed below the base 1. The knife 6 and rotary hopper table 4 are mounted on a common base 1 and rotate in overlapping parallel horizontal planes being driven from an electric motor shaft 12 (or hand geared drive) by means of V belts on pulleys 9, 10, 11. Draining holes 21, 22, 23 are provided in the base for juice contained by the upstanding rim 2 on the base 1. The motor and drive pulleys 9, 10, 11 are secured on a plate 14 covering the knife 6, the plate 14 being pivoted at 15 so that the motor and knife etc. can be swung out for inspection and cleaning.
