Abstract

216,963. Marsh, J. H. March 15, 1923. Tension arrangements. -In a device for applying tension to a yarn x, the yarn is led through guides 15, 16, 17 and passes completely round a wheel 12 mounted on a shaft 19. A centrifugal governor device comprising arms 22 and balls 23 is mounted on the shaft 19, the ends of the arms 22 being attached respectively to collars 20, 21 fixed on the shaft, and a collar 24 slidable thereon. The collar 24 is provided with a brake-disc 29, and a brake-pad 37 is arranged on an arm 30 which latter projects from a member 31 as shown in the Figure. When the yarn is being wound, it rotates the wheel 12 and thereby the governor, and the collar 24 rises on the shaft 19 until the disc 29 contacts with the pad 37, the disc 29 and wheel 12 thereupon settling down to a steady speed, which, being less than the linear speed of the yarn, puts a tension thereon. The position of the pad 37 can be adjusted by the wheels 42, 34 and the screwed member 31, so as to vary the tension on the yarn, while a series of tension devices can be mounted in one frame and adjusted simultaneously. If the yarn should break, the guide 7 is arranged to drop and make contact with a member 39 which stops the device by friction against the collars 20, 21. The same yarn may be led round more than one wheel 12 to obtain a greater surface contact.
