Circulating or passing fluids through materials. -Apparatus for the washing, scouring, bleaching, dyeing, steaming, &c. of cloth either in open width or in twisted or rope form, or yarn, comprises two or more kiers 4, 4a each containing a wagon 9, 9a for the goods to be treated, and a circulating pump 16 or the equivalent, the kiers being connected together and to the pump, as by pipes 23, 14, 15, 18, 19, 29 and suitable control valves, in such a manner that liquid may be circulated at will through the kiers in series or in parallel and in either direction. The wagons run on rails 6, and are provided with longitudinal partitions 11 perforated for the passage of liquid and constituting a longitudinal chamber 12 which is connected by means of a pipe 13 with the pipe 14 leading to the pump. When steaming the cloth &c. only one kier will be filled with liquid which will be transferred from this kier to the other, and vice versa, so that the cloth is treated with liquid and steam alternately.
