Piled and packed materials, treating with fluids. -A machine for the dyeing, bleaching, sizing &c. of stubbing, yarn, cloth, &c. in which the material is treated while in a cuttled formation, is provided with a pivoted cradle or lining B in which the material is loosely piled, the cradle being divided into compartments for each run of yarn, &c. by longitudinal partitions b<1>, and the walls of the cradle, and if desired the bottom, being perforated in order that the liquor in the vat A may have access to the material. The material is held in position by a baffle plate b<3> in the cradle, and guide rods b<4> are provided to place the yarn &c. leaving the machine under tension; the rods b<4> are removable to allow doubled-up yarn to pass. The material C to be treated is passed through feed rollers D, then over a winch C<1>, and when a sufficient length has accumulated in the cradle, the end is passed to delivery rollers f, which are started by means of clutch-mechanism f<1>, f<2>; the yarn is then passed over the rollers in a rinsing tank H, provided with delivery rollers E, run at the same speed as the rollers f; instead of rollers the rinsing tank may be provided with a cradle similar to that of the tank A. The liquor in the vat A is circulated by a pump G and it is heated by a steam pipe H<1>; a board f<3> returns to the vat, liquor squeezed out by the rollers f.
