Impregnating materials in long lengths; fabrics composed of fibrous materials agglutinated by adhesives; compound fabrics. - A web W of fibrous material such as cotton batting is passed between an endless band B and a roller R, to the nip of which a viscid cement, preferably one containing rubber, is fed. The cement' and the band B exert a shear-like action as a result of which the bottom layers of the web are advanced relatively to the top. The web is simultaneously compressed between the rollers R and R'. The product may be treated with a stiffening or hardening liquid or gas and finally compressed by rolling. The cement may be in the colloidal state. Several sheets of the product may be combined to form a compound fabric.
