Pistons, cooling; pistonrods.-The piston of an internal-combustion engine is made of two coaxial parts 1, 2 connected together and forming a cavity between them. The bottom part 2 has a central boss 4 which is coned internally to engage a coned surface on the piston-rod, and is connected to the outer circumference of the part 2 at the top and bottom only. The part 1 has an interior flange 8 connected to the crown 7 by ribs 7<1> and is provided with an opening covered by a plate 9 through which the tube 11 for circulating the cooling-liquid passes. The piston-rod is hollow and carries a tube 10 with a surrounding annular space through which the cooling fluid is supplied and returned.
