Abstract
A deflector is an attachable to fertiliser broadcasters to which give even spreading of fertiliser up to the hedge and prevents waste beyond the edge of the crop. It consists of a bracket A. fixed rigidly to any fertiliser broadcaster X. and a deflecting plate C. attached to A. with an adjustable hinge or socket at B. The deflector plate C. has sufficient area to intercept the fertiliser particles which would have gone beyond the 1 DIVIDED 2 bout width and deflect them by its special shape and position to give, together with the non intercepted particles, an even coverage up to the 1 DIVIDED 2 bout width. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
The headland fertiliser deflector
This invention relates to an attachmentfor pendu urn action and spinning discfertiliserbroadcastersto give even coverage without waste against hedges and crop boundaries.
The spread pattern of broadcasting fertiliser distributors istriangularwith most in the centre and tailing offto each side. By returning along the edge of the farthestthrown particles an even spread is obtained.
At crop boundaries 1/4 ofthefertiliser spread to that side goes beyondthecrnp intothe hedgeorverge encouraging undesirable growth there. The growing crop is deprived ofthis amount giving a progressive shortage to 1/2 rate with crop loss and weed incursion towards the boundary.
The Headland Fertiliser Deflector can be described by reference to the accompanying drawing in which:-- Figure 1 shows the outline of a fertiliser broadcasterX distributing from the position Y, and the deflecting plate C, the fixing bracket A and the adjustable fixing point B. all viewed from the rear. Fig.

The essential features of the Headland Fertiliser Deflectorarethat:- 1. It is an attachmenttoafertiliserbroadcaster.
2. It consists of a bracket A. fixed rigidly to any Fert.
broadcaster X. and a deflecting plate C. attached to A.
with an adjustable hinge or socket at B.
3. ThedeflectorplateC. hassufficientareato interceptthefertiliserparticles which would have gone beyond the 1/2 bout width.
4. The special shape and position of the deflector plate C. deflects the particles so intercepted to give, together with the non intercepted particles, an even coverage up to the 1/2 boutwidth.
5. It is mounted at B. to A. so that it can easily by folded back or removed when not required.
It is normally used on the side ofthe spreader nearest the hedge or boundaryforthe firsttime around the field.
