Abstract

215,901. Barnes, W. T. March 17, 1923. Folding boxes formed from special blanks. - A folding carrier box is formed from a blank a, Fig. 3, scored at b to form strips a<1> - - a<4> which, when turned at right-angles to the blank and secured at the corners, form an all-round flange, as shown in Fig. 4, while the parts of the flange bordered by two transverse scores b', arranged at equal distances on each side of the centre line of the blank, are diagonally scored at b<2> and the outer triangles c between such scores are removed. The halves of the box can thus hinge on the bottom or intermediate portion bounded by the scores b<1> to telescope the side and end flanges of one half into the flanges of the other half with the scored parts of the side flanges a<1>, a<2> automatically folding inwards to leave no apertures at the ends. The box is carried by cord handles e, Fig. 2, threaded through eyelets d and the side flanges are scored at b<3> so that the box can be collapsed as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 4.
