215,845. Beasley, W. H., Edser, E., and Minerals Separation, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1923. Briquetting and agglomerating processes.-A process of making briquettes from finely divided metalliferous matter and carbonaceous matter consists in flocculating the latter in water by agitation with a liquid hydrocarbon binding medium, separating the flocculated material from water, mixing it with the metalliferous matter and subjecting the mixture to pressure, preferably with the application, before pressing, of heat as, for instance, live steam. In an application to the reduction of zinc oxide to metallic zinc, the carbonaceous matter may be anthracite, bituminous coal or coke; or coal as obtained in the processes described in Specification 122,454 and 159,285, [both in Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.], may be used. The process is also applicable to haematite concentrates obtained as described in Specification 206,5'65. Specifications 185,216, 189,220, 189,221. [all in Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.], are also referred to.
