Abstract

215,223. Thorsten, A. F. July 4, 1923. Steam valves.-A valvea device particularly applicable for use as a storm valve on board ship has a pivoted flap normally held to its seat by a weighted arm arranged outside the valve and connected to the valve in such a way that the flap is held to its seat when the latter is in any position between horizontal and vertical. In the form shown the valve 27 co-operates with a seat 20 formed by boring out the end of a cast iron elbow 10. This elbow is secured to the side 15 of the ship by bolts 16 engaging a flange 12 and has a spigot 13 inserted in an aperture 13<a> in the ship side. The valve member is mounted on a shaft 24 which passes out of the valve chamber into a circular casing 29 where it is fitted with a toothed pinion 28. An arm 34 adjustably loaded by a weight 40 is pivoted near to the shaft 24 and has a toothed quadrant 38 adapted to engage the pinion 28. The casing 29 is provided with a removable cover and the elbow is furnished with a cleaning aperture closed by a plug 42.
