Abstract
214,970. Duquenne, C. April 27, 1923, [Convention date]. Blocks, special shapes of.-A furnace roof is built up of refractory overlapping blocks R, Figs. 1, 6 and 7, so shaped that transverse and longitudinal spaces are formed between the blocks increasing in width towards the bottom of the roof. The blocks are recessed to engage with the lower flanges of longitudinal suspension girders S, S<1>, S<11>, the upper flanges of which engage freely with hangers 4<1>, 4<11>, secured to transverse beams 1<1>, 1<11>. The front ends of the girders S are secured to the girder 1 mounted along the front wall of the furnace and their rear ends rest freely in the hangers 4<1> and abut against the front ends of the girders S'. The ends of the suspension girders S, S<1>, S" are cut at a slight angle so that the spaces between the ends of the girders increase in size towards the bottom. Longitudinal girders 2 are secured to the girders 1<1>, 1<11>. The sides of the blocks R are provided with recesses 8 to receive fire-brick members 9. The suspension girders and blocks are free to expand, the rear end of the roof being entirely free and adapted to support plates 6 protecting the drum B of a boiler.
