Abstract

214,405. Tizzard, L. March 15, 1923. Reel and non-endless web apparatus.-In apparatus comprising a blind 11 carrying direction signs for road vehicles and wound on two rollers 56, the former of which is controlled by a spring 8 and the latter manually operated through gear wheels 12, 13 by a cable 17, the tension of the spring 8 may be adjusted by the spindle 7. The spindle is held in the position to which it is adjusted by a spring controlled pawl 10 engaging a ratchet 9 on the spindle. Springs 18 interposed between the cable 17 and the casing 1 prevent slack in the cable. The controlling means comprise a drum 19, to which the cable 17 is attached, slotted to slidably accommodate a spring-controlled handle 22 which is retained in any one of its operative positions by a notched plate 24. Lamps may be provided for illuminating the signs at night and may be controlled by the handle.
