Description

SPECIFICATION An attachment for a lavatory pan This invention relates to an attachment for a lavatory pan.
The invention provides an attachment for a lavatory pan comprising a support which can be fastened to the rear upper portion of a lavatory pan, a ring seat pivotably connected to the support, and a bowl pivotably connected to the support, the bowl having a discharge opening therein and means projecting outwardly therefrom for supporting the bowl on the ring seat when the latter in use rests on the rim of the pan.
Such an attachment can be fitted to a lavatory pan instead of the standard cover and enables the lavatory pan to be used as a bidet as well as in conventional manner. The attachment according to the invention has particular application in lavatories provided in mobile homes, and in small rooms where there is insufficient room for the provision of a separate bidet but it also has application in larger lavatories where the cost of providing a separate bidet would be much greater than employing an attachment according to the invention.
Preferabiy, the projecting means comprises an outwardly projecting rim of the basin. In this way, the bowl can be supported by the seat ring around substantially its entire periphery.
Advantageously, the bowl is provided with an outwardly projecting tab at a position remote from the pivot axis of the bowl relative to the support for manually pivoting the bowl about its axis.
Preferably, a water supply unit is mounted on the support.
Conveniently, a plug for closing the discharge opening in the bowl is connected to the bowl by a flexible elongate element.
The invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through a lavatory pan with one embodiment of an attachment, according to the invention, fitted thereto, the bowl of the attachment being shown in an out of use position and the ring seat being shown between two extreme positions.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but with the ring seat shown in a usable position and the bowl shown between two extreme positions.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the lavatory pan and attachment of Figs. 1 and 2, with the bowl in a usable position, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinai centre section through the lavatory pan and attachment, again with the bowl in a usable position.
Referring now to the drawings, the attachment is shown fitted to a conventional enamel lavatory pan 1. The attachment comprises a support which as shown is in the form of a mounting plate 3. The mounting plate 3 is fastened to the rear upper portion 2 of the lavatory pan 1 by threaded bolts (provided with co-operating nuts) which extend through the holes 9 and 9' in the pan provided for fastening a conventional lavatory seat and cover to the pan. The plate 3 supports two spindles 10 and 10' and a water supply unit 19.
A ring seat 8 has two spaced lugs 11 and 12 by which the ring seat is mounted for pivotable movement on the spindles 10, 10' and a bowl 4 has two spaced lugs 13 and 14 by which the bowl is mounted for pivotable movement, independently of the ring seat, on the spindles 10, 10t.
The ring seat 8 is shaped so that it can rest on the rim 20 of the pan opening.
The bowl 4 has an outwardly projecting rim 5 and at its end remote from its pivot axis, it has a projecting tab 7 for manually pivoting the bowl about its pivot axis.
When the bowl 4 is in a usable position (see Figs. 3 and 4) the ring seat 8 rests on the rim 20 of the pan, and the rim 5 of the bowl 4 rests on the ring seat 8. The bowl 4 has a discharge opening 6 closable by a plug 1 5 connected to the bowl by a flexible elongate element which may be in the form of a chain 1 8. The bowl is shaped so as to fit into the pan 1 and so that any water in the bowl, when the latter is in a usable position, will flow towards the opening 6 when the latter is not closed by the plug 1 5.
The water supply unit 1 9 comprises hot and cold water inlets 1 7 (only one shown) which can be connected to a mains water supply by flexible hoses, and hot and cold taps 21 and 22 having a common water outlet 1 6 located so as to feed water into the bowl 4 when the latter is in a usable position.
When not in use the bowl 4 is pivoted rearwards beyond a vertically upstanding position as shown in Fig. 1. When the bowl is not in use the ring seal also can be pivoted rearwards until it rests against the rim 5 of the bowl.
A lavatory pan fitted with the above described attachment can be used both in conventional manner and as a bidet.
1. An attachment for a lavatory pan, comprising a support which can be fastened to the rear upper portion of a lavatory pan, a ring seat pivotably connected to the support, and a bowl pivotably connected to the support, the bowl having a discharge opening therein and means projecting outwardly therefrom for supporting the bowl on the ring seat when the latter in use rests on the rim of the pan.
2. The attachment of claim 1, wherein the projecting means comprises an outwardly projecting rim of the bowl.
3. The attachment of claim 2, wherein the bowl is provided with an outwardly projecting tab at a position remote from the pivot axis of the bowl relative to the support for manually pivoting the bowl about its axis.
4. The attachment of any one of the preceding claims, wherein a water supply unit is mounted on the support.

CLAIMS
