Abstract

A toilet and sanitary fitting comprises a shower trough or bath 3, the top 4,5 of which is extended to provide a surround and seal for water closet pan 9. The whole may be arranged as a room corner fitment and include preformed apertures 14, 17 for service pipes, for water supply and drainage pipes for the bath or shower, and for access. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to toilet and sanitary fittings This invention relates to toilet and sanitary fittings.
The objectofthe present invention isto provide a combined water closet and bath or shower trough fitment, orto provide a bath or shower trough fitment adapted to be combined with an existing water closet fitment, as a space-saving arrangement, persons using the water closet standing or resting theirfeet upon the trough base.
Accordingly, the invention comprises a water closet having a selected pan contour in combination with a bath or showertrough fitment of surround height not exceeding the height of the water closet pan, having an aperture in the surround shaped to fit around the water closet pan and to form a seal therewith, with an intermediate gasket, the base of the bath or shower trough being of sufficient strength to permit of a person standing thereon and said bath or torugh surround being providedwith additional apertures to accommodate vertical piping ducts orto provide access to pipes or pipe connections below the level of the said surround.
Conveniently, the bath orshowertrough is kidney shaped to fit more conveniently around the water closet pan.
Conveniently, also, the bath or showertrough surround is shaped as a room cornerfitment.
One embodimentofthe invention will now be described in detail, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Fig. lisa plan view of a bath fitment adapted to be combined with a water closet of conventional form and having a selected pan contour; and Fig. 2 is a section view ofthe bath fitment of Fig. 1 in the plane ll-ll thereof.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, there is shown a bath fitment shown generally at 1, having a trough 2andflatbase3,forresting on or being supported upon the floor of a room. The bath fitment 1 has a surround 4 of pentagonal shape adapted to fit into the corner of a room at its corner 5.
The bath trough 2 is of generally kidney shape for fitting around a water closet 6 of pre-selected bowl shape conforming to a generally oval aperture 7 formed in the surround 4 of the bath fitment. The surround 4forms a water-tight seal with the bowl 8, see Fig. 2, of the water closet 6, using an intermediate sealing member or compound. The bath surround 4 does not extend to the full height of the water closet bowl 8 butfits around it at a level beneath the seat-bearing rim 9. It will be readily appreciated that the shape and size of the surround aperture 7 and the shape and size of the water closet bowl 8 at the level of the bath surround 4 must be matched to permit of a good seal with an intermediate sealing means.
The bath base 3 is provided with a conventional waste outlet 10 and the bath trough 2 is provided with a conventional overflow outlet 11.
The bath surround 4 is not of uniform height, but is provided with a shallow depression 12 atthe front of the trough, shown hatched in Fig. 1, and also with a depressed area 13, where the surround 4fits around the water closet bowl 8, also shown hatched in Fig. 1.
In corners ofthe surround 4, at opposite ends of the bath trough 2, are provided apertures 14 and 15, having upwardlyflared surrounds. The apertures are formed to accommodate vertical ducts carrying pipes and, if required, electrical cables.
Either aperture 14 or 15may carry hot and cold water pipes supplying bath taps, not shown.
Behindthe aperture 7, nearthe corner5, is provided a small aperture 16to accommodate a rising coldwater pipe supplying the water closet cistern, not shown. Furtherforward from the rear edge of the surround 4 are provided two larger apertures 17, one on each side of the water closet waste pipe. These apertures 17 are also formed with upwardly flared surrounds and provide hand-access to water closet and bath pipeworkotherwise covered bythe bath surround 4. The apertures 17 may be covered with fitting caps, not shown, when they are not in use.
In Fig. 2, the bath base 3 is shown covered by an optional, shaped mat 18.
The manner of fitting the bath fitment 1 and associated pipework is largely optional, but it will be appreciated from Fig. 2 that the water closet 6 has to be lowered through the surround aperture 7, by reason ofthe bowl shape, and the water closet waste to soil pipe seal made by hand access through the apertures 17.
