This invention relates to a combination water closet, wash basin and drinking fountain, and particularly relates to an all metal sanitary device of the institutional type.

In public institutions, particularly penal institutions and mental hospitals, conventional plumbing fixtures are a continual source of trouble. Conventional plumbing fixtures are made of ceramic materials and are easily cracked when subjected to heat or other stress. Thus, inmates, in an effort to secure either weapons or cause trouble, frequently break conventional plumbing fixtures for various reasons. Further, in public institutions, space is ordinarily very limited and it is desirable to have a fixture which occupies the minimum amount of floor space. In addition, it is highly desirable to have fixtures which require the minimum amount of installation and maintenance expense.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a combination plumbing fixture which will take care of all the sanitary needs of an inmate, which is substantially indestructible by normal means, which is easy to install and maintain and which occupies a minimum amount of floor space.

Another object of this invention is to provide an all metal integral plumbing fixture which may be readily fabricated.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a sanitary plumbing fixture having no exposed loose parts or plumbing connections whereby it is rendered substantially tamper-proof.

Still other objects will be apparent from the balance of the specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention.

Referring now to Figures 1, 2 and 3 by reference characters, the fixture includes a wash basin, generally indicated at 5, a toilet bowl, generally designated 7, which are joined by a skirt-like member, generally designated 10. The wash bowl portion 5 has a front member 9, a straightsided back member 11, the front portion 9 being of generally curved shape, as is common in lavatories. The lip of the bowl 13 is connected to the back portion 11 by means of a sloping sidewall, as is shown, and the top of the lavatory may be formed into a small shelf 15. The bowl is equipped with a small opening 17 through which water runs slowly through pipe 21 to the toilet bowl. In this manner, it is possible to fill the wash bowl without using a stopper and the water will discharge slowly ice from the wash bowl to the toilet bowl, obviating the need for a separate trap, vent and waste discharge opening for the wash bowl. An overflow outlet 19 is provided which communicates with the pipe 21 through the overflow mem-- ber 23.

The back portion of the lavatory is equipped with a combination water outlet, soap dish and drinking fountain which has been generally designated 23A. This fixture is ordinarily cast separately and welded into place in the balance of the lavatory and contains a water outlet 25, soap dish 27, and a drinking outlet 29.

Outlets

25 and 29 are in fluid communication and if one wishes to use the fixture as a drinking fountain, one need merely place a finger over the opening 25, whereupon water will be discharged from the opening 29. The lavatory may also be equipped with two integrally cast toothbrush holders, designated 31. Openings are provided in the lavatory for the insertion of two conventional push button fittings for hot and cold water, which have been designated 33.

The toilet bowl portion 7 of the fixture has a cast integral seat, designated 35. The bowl is provided with a waste discharge opening 37 and the inside of the bowl is provided with a partition or baffle 39. The baffle 39 forms a water trap in the bottom of the closet, as is well known to those skilled in the art. An. integrally cast spud 49 may be provided on the water closet for connection to a water pipe 51 in the known manner. The water connection 49 leads to a chamber 53 having an opening 55 therein for discharge of water into the bowl and also leading from the chamber 53 is a tube 57, with an opening 59 just opposite the bafile 39*. Thus, when the closet is flushed, the major portion of the water enters the bowl through the opening 55, but part enters through the opening 59. The water passing through the opening 59 serves to start the blowout action to empty the bowl.

The water closet proper rests on a base 61 and the base 61 may be of varying height in order that varying heights of wall outlets can be accommodated. The lower skirt 65 is inturned as at 67 to provide a back for the fixture.

In the embodiment shown, the fixture is made by welding together five different aluminum sections, namely the bowl 5, the skirt 10, the lower bowl 7, the lower skirt 65, and the drinking fountain 23. Other metals and other methods of fabrication can be used.

The waste fitting 37 has a flange 63 thereon so that the fixture can be readily fastened to the wall and made tight to the plumbing outlet at the same time as by bolt 68. In addition, the base has openings 69 for the insertion of tamper-proof bolts.

The fixture heretofore described rests on the floor and there is shown in Figure 4 another embodiment of the invention wherein the fixture is hung from a wall. The fixture of Figure 4 has the same internal structure as is shown in Figures 1-3 and has a wash basin 5, a toilet bowl 7, joined by the front skirt 70 and. the side skirts 72. The waste outlet is concealed by the housing 74 which is essentially a continuation of the side skirts. Lugs 76 are provided so that the fixture may be fastened to a wall or the like. In addition, fastening means may be employed near the top of the fixture, at the back thereof, not illustrated.

In the manner described above, a combination plumbing fixture has been provided which is substantially tamper-proof, which occupies a minimum amount of floor space, and which requires a minimum of installation ex pense.

I claim:

1. A tamper-proof unitary plumbing fixture comprising a combined toilet bowl and wash basin, said wash basin being mounted over and having an outlet draining into the Patented Nov. 18, 1958 toilet bowl and having a water inlet and having a concealing member extending downward from the wash basin at the front and sides thereof and forming a portion of the sides of the wash basin, said concealing member extending from each side of the wash basin to the bottom of the fixture and providing a support for the wash basin and said concealing member in front extending to the top of the toilet bowl, a water inlet and Waste outlet extending to and from said toilet bowl, said concealing member concealing'the water inlets and outlets.
