Abstract
A wash basin (9) is close coupled with a toilet cistern (22) to provide a washing facility in a confined space. <IMAGE>
Description
THE COMBINATION WASHING FACILITY
This invention relates to an optional as semblance washing and toilet facility.
BACKGROUND
Whilst I do not have access to figures, I am sure that particulary since the second world war, the number of loft conversions, house conversions, and the general desire for modern conveniences, has seen a large increase in the number of loo's in the home/workplace.
For example, an additional groundfloor loo, for many people is a desirable and coveted amenity.
The problem is that we are often fitting "modern conveniences" in to buildings that were not designed to take them, with the result that something often has to be compromised.
I.E. we have space under the stairs for a low flush W.C. but not for the wash hand basin, or annoyingly, the space may be there but with little hope of connecting to the waste or waterfeed without major works and/or unsightly pipework, for a sink that for the mostpart will only be used for a quick rinse of the hands.
Ferthermore anyone with a small separate (from the bathroom) loo may appreciate the following facility should the bathroom be in occupation.
DESCRIPTION
According to the present invention there is provided a sink with a tap mounted on a "known principal" flushing cistern used in conjunction with a toilet pan.
The sink sits securely on top of the cistern and its pipework is coupled with the flushing cistern and toilet assembly.
Two specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a loo assembly, plus a sink 9, positioned on top of, and recessed within, the cistern 22 forming the lid, a simple push tap 12 and a flushing handle 13.
FIGURE 2 shows an areal view of the above displaying offset drain 18.
Figure 3 shows a cross section of the above with water supply 31 "T"ing off to go to the tap, and float valve not shown. 32 showing the wast pipe on it's way to discharge.
Figure 4 shows in perspective the above.
Figure 5 shows an alternative "piggy-back" assembly with the sink 21 separate but sitting ontop of the cistern 22.
Figure 6 shows in perspective the cistern as in 5 with the lid removed showing a recess to accommodate the wastepipe and/or trap of the sink not shown.
Figure 7 shows a cross section of the cistern and sink in assemblance, as in 5 showing the wast pipe 23 travelling down behind the cistern.
Figure 8 shows 5 in perspective.
Example one
With reference to the first example the sink 9 is sitting on, and forming the lid of the cistern 22. The pipe-work for the sink may be inside or out of the cistern 22 but in any event this assembly would have the option to forgoe' the necessity for individual plumbing once the combination is assembled, by linking up to the host appliance, in this case a loo.
I.E. water is fed to the tap 12 by "T"ing off 31 before the ball valve. The waste is discharged in the toilet pan by connecting into the flushing mechanism or other channel after passing through the usual trap facility.
The sink 9 would need no independent fixing since the cistern 22 is the support.
Naturaly care would be needed in the design to comply with building regulations and by-law's.
Some redesigning of the "known principal" cistern and the sink such as an offset drainplug as shown in Fig 2 3 and 4 may be necessary to accommodate the float and pipework.
Example Two
With reference to the second example the principal would be as above, again the sink 21 should need no fixings of its own, other than plumbing, if "close coupled". However, because it dose not form the lid of the cistern, and only sits in suitably designed securing form I.E. feet, it will be possible to relocate the sink 21 and use it independently should this be desired, and therefore would need to be suppled with optional fixing's.
Claims (5)
1 A combination washing facility, such as a sink with a tap, that can be "closely coupled" with another facility, such as a
W.C. cistern.
2 A combination washing facility as described in 1 that can be assembled to form a single manoeuvrable unit.
3 A combination washing facility, as described in 1 and 2 that may be fitted and used "closely coupled" or independently.
4 A combination washing facility, as described in 1 2 and 3 that when assembled "close coupled" will have the option to need no independent support; wall fixings; or other separate connections for the washing facility, including the water feed, or the drainage, outside of the unit as a whole, other than that which will be required for the host fitment.
5 A device as described in 1 2 3 and 4 with which one may conveniently wash parts of the body other than the genital area.I.E. the hands.
