Abstract

213,323. Brookes & Adams, Ltd., and Brookes, A. E. Dec. 22, 1922. Forging helical grooves; forging-machines; dies. -A divided die which co-operates with another die to form hot metal stampings is provided with an incline 3, on each part 11, adapted to engage a corresponding abutment so that when the two dies are brought together the parts of the divided die are forced into contact. The die may be divided into two or four parts by axial or inclined planes 12 and inclines 3 together form a cone engaging a corresponding recess 24 in a bed 23. Tapered recesses 21 are formed between the parts and these are engaged by screws 22 so that when the parts are pushed out by an ejector rod 20 they are also separated. When the dividing planes are inclined, as in dies for forging articles with helical grooves, a separate die member 16 to close the bottom of the die cavity is necessary.
