Abstract
212,846. General Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen). June 22, 1923, [Convention date]. Separating and sorting device for mechanically sorting tubes, such as glass tubes for use in the manufacture of incandescent lamps, first grades the tubes according to their external diameter by passing them over slots cf different widths and subsequently grades those of any required diameter according to their internal diameter by means of a rotating spider with conical spokes on to which the tubes drop and from which they are, discharged into corresponding bins. The tubes are fed from a hopper a by a rotary device c down a. shoot. d to a space z<1> between a rotating drum f and a fixed shelf e spaced the required amount therefrom. The oversized tubes are carried on by projections q and the grading repeated at the successively increasing spaces z<2>, Z<3>. The second part of the process consists in leading the tubes passing through a given slot z<2> to a shoot i from which they pass on to conical spokes l carried by a rotating disc k which is formed with a rim n with apertures m registering with the spokes. The medium size tubes pass on to the spokes for about half their length and are carried round until sliding blocks o, normally held back by a fixed disc p with a segmental flange, t, are allowed to fall and strip them off the. spokes into a tin IV. The oversized tubes pass completely on to the spokes and are held by spring arms q controlled by a cam r to allow the tubes to pass into a bin V. The undersized tubes are held on the tips of the spokes and fall off when the horizontal position is passed into the bin VI. Specification 150,018 is referred to.
