Abstract

1,034,244. Magnetic separation. NORTH BRITISH RUBBER CO Ltd. May 20,1965 [June 1, 1964], No. 22569/64. Heading B2J. In a process for separating metal such as steel wire from rubber as in the process for reclamation of rubber from scrap tyres, the rubber is granulated, classified and subjected to a low intensity magnetic field for separating-out wire and rubber having large wire inclusion from the remainder which is sized into two fractions, the larger fraction then being subjected to a high intensity magnetic field for separating-out the rubber having small wire inclusion and discharging the clean, metal-free rubber. As shown, debeaded pieces of tyre carcass are fed by conveyers 10 into a granulator 11 and then by conveyers 13, 14 on to a shaking screen 15 which returns the undersize particles to the granulator and passes the undersize via a pneumatic conveyer and cyclone 20 to a magnetic drum separator 21. The wire and rubber particles having large wire inclusion are returned to the granulator via a trolley 22, Fig. 2 (not shown) while the remainder is delivered to a sceen 23 which discharges undersize particles via a pneumatic conveyer 25 and cyclone 24 to a discard bin 26 and the oversize particles via pneumatic conveyers 28 and cyclones 27 to magnetic disc separators 29. The rubber particles having small wire inclusion are discharged in a discard trolley (30) below and the metal-free rubber particles are passed to a conveyer 31 for discharge into a storage bin 32.
