Class 27 Coin sorting apparatus comprises a hopper 54 from which coins are transferred by a tilted motor-driven disc 40 to a channel section shoot 16 and the coins rolling down the shoot are deflected, according to their diameter, by cams 19, 21, 22, 23 so that they pass through slots 19b, 21b or 22b or over the end of the shoot into receptacles 24, 26, 27, 28. The coins are moved round by circumferentially-spaced lugs 41 and a lug 42 behind each lug 41 prevents a coin of the smallest dimension being sorted from falling into and jamming between a properly-positioned coin and the preceding lug 41. Coins in the hopper that are not leaning against the face of the disc 40 are moved into this position by lugs 43 on the periphery of the disc and coins that may be carried round by the lugs 43 in overlying relation to properly-positioned coins are allowed to fall away by bevelled cut-outs 51 in a raised central portion 47 of the disc. The coins are directed from the disc 40 to a position against marginal flanges 18a of a spacer bar 18 in the shoot by a finger 81 on a bracket 74 and by a deflector 73. When the coin is supported on the finger 81, it operates the arm 69 of a counting mechanism 61.
