Abstract

212,215. HugÚ, E. March 2, 1923, [Convention date]. Addition to 201,166. Spray burners.-In place of the ferrule used for producing the whirling spray described in the parent Specification, helical grooves, Fig. 2, may be cut in a flat head 5 bearing against the walls of the basin 3, the thickness of the head being just sufficient to assure the direction .of the fuel flowing through the grooves. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the basin is provided with a screwed extension 6 in which is screwed the head 7 provided with helical grooves. The supply of fuel is regulated by means of a disc 8 provided with annular bearing surfaces E, F by which the entrance to the grooves may be covered. In the form shown in Fig. 4 helical grooves H are cut in an extension of the basin and are formed with inclined bottoms R'. A conical head formed with helical grooves R is formed to screw into the grooves R<1> and thus to regulate the spray. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a modification of the apparatus described in the parent Specification in which the basin 3 is rotated to coact with a series of different sized outlets, the supply of fuel being regulated by means of a plunger 10, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), working in a cylinder in which the tangential opening 11 is formed. As the spindle 12 is rotated to bring the basin into coincidence with the openings a screw 14 forces the plunger down more or less to close the opening 11. In a further modification the height of the plunger and the position of the basin are separately controlled, the casing being rotated by a hollow-shaft and the height of the plunger controlled by a concentric valve shaft. Fig. 8 (Cancelled) shows a form in which control is obtained by withdrawing a suitable amount of the fuel through a valve controlled outlet connected to the basin 3' through a hollow stem. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
