Abstract

Luggage - holders.- In a luggage-carrier for use on motorvehicles and the like of the kind in which a luggage supporting-grid D is pivoted to brackets A on the vehicle and retained in its raised or lowered positions by the co-operation of quadrants and locking-devices, a spring- controlled transverse bar E extending the whole width of the carrier and preferably carried by the grid D is adapted to engage with notches C<3>, C<4> upon the peripheries of a pair of quadrants C carried by the brackets A. The ends of the bar E move in slots in the side members of the grid, and the edges of the notches C<3>, C<4> instead of being radial are slightly inclined so as to produce a wedging action on the bar E, thereby preventing rattling of the grid. A cross-tube B or the ends A<2> of the brackets A form stops to limit the upward movement of the grid, while the lower edges C<5> of the quadrants are turned inwards to limit the downward movement. A number-plate G may be hinged directly to the grid or be attached to a hinged cross-member so that it hangs vertically either in the raised or lowered position of the grid.
