Variable resistances.-A rheostat is formed of two wires D, E arranged parallel to one another in grooves in the periphery of a cylinder A, for example the holder of a thermionic valve, a knurled ring L carrying a bridging contact N being rotatably mounted on the cylinder A. One end of the wire E is connected to one of the filament sockets J, the corresponding end of the other wire D being connected to a terminal G, between which and the other filament socket K is connected the lighting battery P. The other ends of the resistance wires D, E are secured to the block A by screws. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 201,088.
