Assembling matrices.-In an arrangement for assembling two-letter matrices at different levels, the matrices, as they leave the assemblerbelt 1, are arrested at an intermediate level by a rail 5, and are guided therefrom on to upper or lower supporting-rails 11, 12 by a switch 6 operated by a hand-lever 10. In composing a mixed line, the matrices are pushed forwards, after each section of the line has been composed, by a hand-operated finger 8 against the action of the yielding resistant 4. The switch 6 is then adjusted, and the finger 8 is withdrawn, so that the line is moved to the right against the starwheel 2 bv the resistant 4. A pair of spring- pressed switches 7, which are lifted by the matrices assembled in the upper position, support the higher-level matrices during their movement to the right.
